DJ Ian F - Cuban Salsa

Cuban Salsa is a term which describes a variety of Cuban music styles, from the older Son, through updated forms like Songo, to Timba which is currently the most popular form of Cuban music.

Although many people associate the word Salsa with Cuba, it is interesting that in actual fact this term was coined in New York. In Cuba, people are more likely to talk about a particular form of Cuban music such as Son or Timba.

There are some long-established Cuban bands, such as Los Van Van and NG La Banda. There are also constantly found new artists (who often started out with more established bands) such as Pupy Pedroso and Haila. Cuba also embraces new music, with more Rap or Dancehall influenced artists like the Orishas (who aren't actually based in Cuba) and Bimbo G.
