DJ Ian F - Reggaeton
Reggaeton is a blend of Latin music with Hip-Hop and Dancehall. It has been popular for a long time in Latin countries, but has recently gained wider popularity, even entering the UK top ten in 2005.
There are arguments about where Reggaeton started, with Panama and Puerto Rico both staking a claim. Panama's claim is with El General, who was creating Reggae in Spanish many years ago. Puerto Rico's argument is that Reggae in Spanish isn't the same as Reggaeton and it's only recent Puerto Rican artists that have mixed Dancehall and Hip-Hop with Puerto Rican musical traditions such as Bomba and Plena.
Well-known Reggaeton artists include Daddy Yankee (who entered the UK top ten with his massive song Gasolina), Don Omar, Tego Calderon, El General, Ivy Queen and Luny Tunes.
